God’s Love We Deliver
Monday, July 16th, the BEN Cares team in New York volunteered at God’s Love We Deliver. The organization is New York City metropolitan area’s leading provider of nutritious, individually-tailored meals to people who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves.
Founded in 1985 when one woman began delivering food on her bicycle to a man dying from AIDS, God’s Love now cooks more than 7,000 meals each weekday, delivering them to clients living with life-altering illnesses in all five boroughs of New York City, Westchester and Nassau Counties, and Hudson County, New Jersey. All of their services are provided free of charge to clients, their children and to the senior caregivers of our senior clients, without regard to income, and they have never maintained a waiting list.
Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
The BEN Cares Los Angeles Team also participated in a volunteer day on Friday, July 20th at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. Since 1973, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has distributed more than 1 billion pounds of food and essentials to children, seniors, families and other individuals in need.
The Food Bank collects food from hundreds of resources. With the help of 30,000 volunteers annually and an agency network of more than 650 partner agencies, they are able to serve more than 300,000 people on a monthly basis.
In the space of three hours, the BEN team prepped 1,064 meals.
Provo City Parks & Recreation
Lastly, on Monday, July 23rd, our Provo BEN Cares team volunteered with Provo City Parks & Recreation to help clean up the river trail that runs right by our office. The Recreation Division strives to keep a healthy, inviting environment with quiet, walkable neighborhoods.
The team pruned, weeded, and cleaned up almost one whole city block of the trail!
